The project

This two bedroom house (10.2m long by 4.7m wide) by HouseIt is built using prefabricated polyisocyanurate (PIR) panels, which are a type of structurally insulated panel (SIP). These panels are a selling point for HouseIt and the main component of their houses. PIR is a rigid polyurethane foam and is used the world over where strong insulation properties are required. It’s blown inside a sandwiched panel, filling every void as it expands into place. This style of paneling provides good insulation values which are approximately 1.5 times better than typical stick frame construction (and have a 6 star energy rating). It is fire and moisture retardant, and resistant to chemical absorption.

The home comes fully plumbed and wired and with all the main appliances such as a fridge, cooktop, washer and dryer. The bathroom and kitchen have vinyl flooring and the bed and living rooms are carpeted. All window dressings are included.

All HouseIt’s homes come with a 10-year Master Builder’s guarantee and a 15-year manufacturer’s warranty. They are all designed to last at least 50 years.

Low Cost

HouseIt builds these homes in the controlled environment of a factory, allowing for faster and more cost-efficient construction than standard builds. The paneling system has been worked on and optimized over time. The efficiencies result in cost savings which are carried to the end customer.

Due to the insulation system it would be fair to say that these homes are cheaper to heat than standard builds, which isn’t an upfront cost but is a cost that is saved over the building’s lifetime.

Note: Kitchen appliances come stock with these turnkey homes, which are incorporated in the home’s price. If you already have your own appliances (for example your own fridge), you can bring costs down by letting HouseIt know, and they will remove the new appliance from the home as well as from the price of the home.

About HouseIt

HouseIt homes were originally designed by builders Alan Hockly and Giles Bayley to fill a need that they recognized in the low-cost housing market. They could see that the cost of housing was getting out of hand and so they set out on creating a solution.

Their goal was to design affordable, fully insulated, extremely low maintenance homes that could be dropped off on-site fully assembled and picked up and moved elsewhere in the future just as easily.

HouseIt has been manufacturing their low-cost pre-manufactured housing line for approximately five years. They can typically fabricate a three-bedroom home from start to finish in about one month.

At this time, HouseIt offers a range of ready to move homes, starting with a 21m2 one-bedroom studio, and ending with a 131m2 4-bedroom home (although they can pretty much design anything if you are wanting to work with them). As their company grows, they intend to incorporate different features and modifications to their homes.
