The Project

The Liberty Tiny House was designed with long term living in mind. It is built out of structural insulated panels, is clad with zinc-alum insulated panelling, has insulated laminated flooring, and is on wheels. The panelling on this tiny house is the same used for large commercial air handling units and walk in freezers, which might give you a feel for its insulating properties. Park Homes note that this style of paneling is rigid, tough, and dampens unwanted external noise better than traditional walls.

The Liberty Tiny House has storage in many places including in and behind the stairs, a TV cupboard (or if removed, space for a fire), a hidden fold-down table and chairs, a sofa bed, a shub (shower tub), and double glazed UPVC windows and doors for added insulation and security. It also features a heat pump, skylight with both a blackout blind and a fly-screen, and space and pipework for a washing machine and a full height fridge-freezer.

The home can either be hooked up to town power, water and sewage or can be set up to function completely off the grid.

Low Cost

The main reason for the low cost of the Liberty Tiny House is that it is small. A smaller building requires less materials and labour, which in turn can allow the company to pass on cost savings.

While not directly a construction cost, the Tiny House is on wheels. Having homes on wheels means that in many instances council related costs are not incurred in the project, thus saving costs. Being able to set up off grid also can save running costs.

About Park Homes

Park Homes began with a recognition of the developing housing crisis in Aotearoa and a desire to help provide solutions in the way that the founders knew how - smaller smarter homes. The founders knew it was a good and viable solution, as they themselves first lived in a Tiny House. Since starting a family they have upgraded to one of their small transportable modular houses.

After five years in the industry, Park Homes will be moving away from producing the larger, modular houses and focusing specifically upon producing high quality, standardised tiny house options for the New Zealand market.
