The Project

This 2-3 bedroom, 1 bathroom transportable house is prefabricated in the Unit2Go factory and delivered to site. It measures 12m long by 5m wide. The 60m2 Home can be arranged in two different layouts, although there is an option to talk to Unit2Go about customising the design. Both layouts have an open kitchen-dining-living area concept with the bathroom on one end of the house next to one of the bedrooms. In one layout the entrance is through the middle and in the other it is off to one side of the house.

The house is made using fairly standard building practices found throughout Aotearoa. It has a treated timber frame, is fully insulated (walls, floor, and ceiling), fully wired and plumbed, has a shadowclad plywood exterior and interior, vinyl/carpet flooring, and an iron roof. Double glazing is an optional extra.

The exterior water inlet can be connected with a standard garden hose, where there might be an existing onsite water supply. Standard plumbing connections for wastewater are available, but there is the option of the home being set up with a Saniflo pump if desired.

Extra options are available and you can visit the website to see what’s available. Builds take about 8 weeks from start to delivery.

Low Cost

This house is kept at a low cost primarily due to its size and because it is made in a factory environment with the same or similar houses being made again and again. As it is small, fewer materials and less labour is needed to build it and these cost savings are passed onto the customer. With regards to being built in a factory, this set-up allows for a more controlled environment which allows greater efficiency to be achieved in the builds. In a factory like environment, workers are able to become proficient and thus more efficient by repeatedly doing a task and becoming experts.

About Unit2Go

Unit2Go has been in the transportable housing industry for over ten years. Having first started out providing rentals, they eventually sought to meet the need of renters that wanted to buy. This prompted them to set up a finance company to provide “rent to own” homes, opening the door for direct purchase builds while still remaining in the tiny home rental business.

Unit2Go has a variety of floor plans to choose from in all their units, including pre-designed and the option for custom design. All are inspected and accompanied by electrical and plumbing certificates. This is particularly true for their new “Designer Series” style units, which are customizable to suit specific needs or occasions.
