Build Up

Piet Ubels

Trying to provide homes for the homeless

Built with volunteer labour

A demonstration of what you can do when you have a big heart and a lot of perseverance

Not an easy journey, difficulties with council

Council was too risk averse.

Looks like good things will be happening soon

Cheers! Fingers crossed that we have a good solution soon.

I’ll be more than happy to help out with an interview although its probably best to wait til we are able to announce something new. I have done some on this project beforehand with links down below, although let me know if you have anything that you’d like to know now.

Hi Piet,
No worries, thanks for getting back to me with this info.
All good, facebook page is great. It's a mission trying to keep up with everything. I struggle myself and my focus is almost purely web based.
That is great news regarding Lifewise, HUD and council. Good on you for your perseverance. I look forward to seeing what comes of it.
That info is all good for now. Has anyone interviewed you yet? Perhaps some time in the future, if you are open to it I could get one of my collaborators to have a chat with you about your project and take some nice photos which you can use for yourself but that I can also put up on the low cost housing website.
Let me know what you think.
Warmest regards,

Hi Zane,My apologies about not getting back to you sooner. Check out for our details (we don’t have a website per se), although we haven’t been able to update it with much lately. However, we are hoping to announce shortly a break though that we have recently made with Auckland Council. Essentially they are looking to buy into the project and are giving a handful of potential sites for us to investigate. If all thing goes to plan in a few weeks we will have a partnership with Lifewise, Auckland Council, MHUD and the Auckland Housing Association to start rolingl out 10 houses as a test model proof of concept.
Exciting stuff but let me know if you have any further questions in NY CASE!
